Hysterectomy Surgery Recipent Mohsena Begum

46 years old Mohsena Begum of Ruma para, Poticchori, Chittagong had uterine fibroid which was giving her discomfort and she was getting all the complications such as anemia from heavy blood loss. Her doctor diagnosed her fibroid tumor was growing out of the uterus on a stalk-like projection. She was going through with a sudden, sharp, severe pain in her lower abdomen for a while. For her condition surgery was the only option, which she could not afford. On July 8th of 2010, She got her free Abdominal Hysterectomy, completely financed by Touching Souls International a nonprofit organization in Nurture Hospital by Surgeon Dr.Lutfar Rahman and Anesthesiologist Dr.Kawsar Ahmed.

Uterine fibroids are benign tumors that originate in the uterus. Although they are composed of the same smooth muscle fibers as the uterine wall, they are many times denser than normal myometrium. Uterine fibroid are usually round or semi-round in shape.

Uterine fibroids are often described based upon their location within the uterus. Subserosal fibroids are located beneath the serosa (the lining membrane on the outside of the organ). These often appear localized on the outside surface of the uterus or may be attached to the outside surface by a pedicle. Submucosal (submucous) fibroids are located inside the uterine cavity beneath the lining of the uterus. Intramural fibroids are located within the muscular wall of the uterus.

Doctors don’t know the cause of uterine fibroids, but research and clinical experience point to several factors:

* Genetic alterations. Many fibroids contain alterations in genes that code for uterine muscle cells.
* Hormones. Estrogen and progesterone, two hormones that stimulate development of the uterine lining in preparation for pregnancy, appear to promote the growth of fibroids. Fibroids contain more estrogen and estrogen receptors than do normal uterine muscle cells.
* Other chemicals. Substances that help the body maintain tissues, such as insulin-like growth factor, may affect fibroid growth.

There are many ways of managing uterine fibroids. Surgical methods are the mainstay of treatment when treatment is necessary. Possible surgical interventions include hysterectomy, or removal of the uterus (and the fibroids with it).
Among its many projects, Touching Souls International, a nonprofit organization provides twelve free surgeries in each month for the very needy patients of Bangladesh and two of them are hysterectomy surgeries.
